Have you ever ventured into the residential area? It's a melting pot of people from all over the Kingdom. Let's review our plan with Warlic and have you both take a look at the junction beyond the arch. Do mind that there are lingering spirits strolling about. They don't mean harm but like rough-housing with adventurers. If we spare a little time playing with the ghosts, they'll let us go on their way. Maybe they'll even give us candy.
If there were actual evil spirits haunting out in the open, the adventurers in town would dogpile those poor souls. The playful ghosties you see bobbing up and down used to be residents of Battleon. They just want to enjoy Mogloween in a place they used to call home. Those Specter Sweets are safe to eat by the way. Warlic seems anxious that you'll stuff anything you find into your mouth but I promise, they taste like fog and you won't die.

We should head down the road leading West first. That's where you'll find a lot of single-floor homes occupied by two or three bands of adventurers each. Though they're on the move all the time, everyone comes back on Mogloween to decorate their houses and throw wild parties. We'll knock on their doors and let them know what's going on. While we're at it, should we scare away those big green fellows? What are they?
We scared off those strange monsters, and all of the houses on the road are aware of the danger. A few agreed to go 'trick or treating' in other neighborhoods to spread the word. What fine Heroes! Even if they did try to make Warlic wear a pumpkin on his head and fill it with fruit punch. "He's The Blue Mage! For sure he can drink all the punch in a minute and beat my record." They were joking but it turned Warlic into a red-faced mage.

There's a cauldron and piles of pumpkins set up on the road. Wow, the cauldron's filled with molten candy! I'd say that's a little dangerous left unattended but very creative! Hmm, there's a slime looking substance smeared all over the decorations. I don't think that's part of the display. Let's investigate that. We'll have to push through the ghosts. They're enchanted by the Mogloween decor and swarming the cauldron.
Now that the ghosts have politely moved out of the way, I've noticed that the slime…smells good. I could see myself lining a pie with slices of apples slathered with the slime - if we didn't just scrape it off the ground. You and Warlic should visit the inn. I could bake a fresh pie dusted with - Cinnamon! That's what the slime smells like! I'm sorry, it's just so funny to me. There could be a big cinnamon slug on the move out there.

The West end is large but typically quiet. When an adventuring party returns home from a long journey, I make sure to visit them and drop off a cake to celebrate. But on Mogloween, everyone is back in town. They're all in danger! Walk past the cauldron and pumpkins to start trick or treating in /trickortreat. Circle back here when you're done.
I was expecting a few monster-infested homes but I didn't expect them to all have one! Did I miss out on a fad? Were those the 'house guards' I hear about people buying at the furniture stores? Uh oh, I hope we didn't ruin anyone's security system but warning the homeowners was far more important! Good work! If anyone asks for compensation, don't worry, I can use the gold I've been tucking away for a rainy day.

With the West end taken care of, let's head up the North road from the junction. That's where long-term residents live. Their homes are a lot fancier. Some of them have third floors and a cellar just for moglinberry juice. We'll knock on their doors next. Hmm, their roads are usually clean, except I'm seeing a lot of squashed jack-o-lanterns. And they're moving…Would you please grab a few for me and Warlic?
Warlic examined the seeds you collected from those Rotting Jack-o-Lanterns. They've already sprouted vines even though they're not in the ground or watered. Warlic says they're reacting to something in the air. Perhaps the presence of something magical. If they can make seeds grow so quickly, that magical person can't be bad. But at the same time, those Jack-o-Lanterns were practically melting from all the mold…

Look there! I love throwing tea parties, and the house at the end of the street set up a table themed for Mogloween. This is such good inspiration for the inn's Fall menu. And just like the cauldron display over on the West end, there's slime on the furniture. I'll help clean it up and have Warlic check for any differences. The smell of the slime looks like it's affecting those big green monsters too. This time, what if we caught a few of them?
Warlic is theorizing that the slime here is fresher and I can tell that its scent is stronger. The monsters smell just like the slime, and they're docile after you get them to calm down. This slime came from someone these creatures care for. And the way the slime is slathered on the decor makes me think that this person picked those items up to marvel at them. If they enjoy Mogloween so much, I'd like to think that they're curious and kind.

We're at the final stretch! The other adventurers should have the rest of the North end covered. We'll head back to the junction and take the East road. And not a moment too soon. I'd be panicking if Warlic hadn't cast his spell. But, the ghosts and spirits on the road don't sense any urgency. That or the wild overgrown pumpkin vines in the East end are riling them up. We'll need to calm them down before we start knocking on doors.
The spirits on the East side are a lot more restless than the others. With these pumpkin vines sprouting everywhere, the street became messy and hard to walk through. A mess makes for restless sleep and ruins concentration. Personally, I can't settle down unless everything around me is in the right place. Inn patrons tease me about how lucky I am to not have siblings messing with my things. I wonder if…

There's a young lady standing outside of her house. That's dangerous, she could get hurt by the restless spirits at the East end. We need to talk to her. She and her family visit the inn for meals often, so it won't be hard to convince her to leave town. But, there's a strange weeping creature nearby. It kind of looks like the animated pumpkins except, that's not mushy pumpkin rind. Is that creature made of…skin? We should catch them.
It hurts my heart terribly when I hear someone cry. I think…I think I've listened to a lot of people crying.

Rhody's house is next door. I wouldn't normally recommend this but break the door down. Quietly, if possible. Carmelita told me that Rhody's a scholar by trade. He must have research notes laying around. It'd be safer to learn as much as you can about what he's doing before charging full tilt. If there are other monsters inside Rhody's house, give them a quiet knock on the head so he won't hear you coming.
There were more of those Rotting Mounds in Rhody's house? That does make sense…he couldn't have been able to mark every building in Battleon alone. I do remember Rhody having dinner at the inn with friends while they read old tomes. They could have been academic peers. To be able to stomach betraying his friends, just to hide his crimes…I hope you teach them a good stern lesson!

According to Rhody's research notes, he's using a greater spirit of rot and decay as a mana battery to power his spell! She is named Madam Ester - a figure essential to the natural cycle of life and death. Though she's important, celebrations in her name have faded into obscurity. So she quietly enjoys Mogloween alone - until Rhody trapped her. Madam Ester is in a confused frenzy. If you defeat and calm her, we can set her free!
I'm just a simple inn-keeper, and a fraidy cat that scares easily. In distant memories I can't quite place, I think I was called a useless coward. Maybe I haven't changed that much, but I found a new home and new friends. Even if I can't be of help, I want to be there for you
