Extinguished Eridanus

Constellations that are not part of the Zodiac hold their own sort of power, but are out of my specialty. No time like the present but to learn! I'm currently studying the constellation Eridanus. I'll tell you about its legend after we hunt for starshards. There's a town with a name very similar to the constellation. Head to /Eridani and find any animal-like creatures to search for star shards.

Legend tells of a Champion of Fire that burned so brightly that they blinded Darkness and mortals alike. Losing control of their powers, they burst and fell into a river that mirrors the Eridanius constellation. Unfortunately, the shards we found in Eridani contain no magic I can recognize. They're indeed connected to an unknown figure from beyond our horizons…but I won't tamper with forces I don't understand yet.

Mourning Cygnus

Cygnus, found in legends studied by Arcangrove, is related to the story of Eridanus. Before I tell you the constellation's story, we should be looking for a pristine white city. It was where the titicular Cygnus was born, and the closest match I could find was /astravia. I skimmed through the books we have on Astravia because I was short on time, but the pictures look nice! Go there and see any of the local Creatures have star shards.

Cygnus was either a dear friend or the spouse of the Champion who lost control, and needed to be extinguished in a river. They swam through that river to retrieve the bones of the Champion, meaning to give them a proper burial. Their devotion was immortalized in the constellation named after them. Hmm, the star shards the astravian wildlife were holding don't look like Cygnus'. Did I get the location wrong or is it something else…

Karkinos Mnimi

Cancer is a cardinal water sign, so think streams and rivers! They're in touch with their own emotions and others…which is a downside sometimes, but only for everyone else. They know how to reach out and pinch where it hurts most. Very fitting of a crab constellation. Now where could we find crabs with star shards connected to Cancer? Ah! I visited Mythsong once and saw Rock Lobsters in /palooza.

Karkinos was a sea beast that was a monster to landwellers but a protective guardian to those who called the sea home. It was slain by a wandering warrior, and the people Karkinos protected took its shell and began wearing it as armor. They called themselves Champion Clashers and Karkinos' rock hard shell made it possible to withstand fatal attacks from all elements. Their story and that of Karkinos is immortalized in the stars.

Pisces Venaris Mater

Pisces is a mutable water sign. Those born under the constellation are compassionate and artistic …and they tend to have savior complexes. Fights are so dramatic with them but I digress. Pisces is represented by fish, but it could also be a shark. Since it's nearby, hop into /natatorium. Anglerfish and Merdraconians, fishy species swimming in magic, may have star shards connecting them to Pisces.

In Arcangrove, legends say that the constellation of Pisces was born from an old tale of the goddess Lupercalia transforming themselves and their children to hide from Valentidus Sr. There are scholars gutsy enough to theorize that many species of fish are descendants of these love gods while they were in fish form. I'll take the star shards you found and see how they tie to the constellation, its legend, and its magic.

Aries Chrysomallus

Aries is a cardinal fire sign. Those born under the constellation are fiery, adventurous, honest…and sometimes that's a nice way of saying that they have a temper, are super impulsive, and have no filter. Ah well, if you ever get in a fight with an Aries, they cool off as quickly as they spark up. Anyways, the darkbloods may have star shards connecting them to Aries. You can find some lingering in /kolyaban.

The legend of Aries came from the Darkbloods. It honors a golden Darkblood warrior who rescued a Greenguard King. In return, the King slew them, stole their gold fleece, and deemed them a monster like their brethren. New stars were placed in the sky that dark day, immortalizing that warrior as a constellation, so they would be remembered as a hero instead of the mindless beast in tales spun by humans.

Leonine Regalia

Leo is a fire sign, and is represented by the Lion. Ruled by the Sun, heroes who battle under this sign are recognized everywhere as passionate and creative. But much like the lion that represents them, they can be fiercely prideful. Very fitting for a constellation centered around the King of the Beasts. If we had to look for star shards drawn to Leos… I bet we'll find what we seek in Onslaught Tower.

Verdant Virgo

Do you know about Changelings? Fairies have a penchant for swapping human babies with one of their own. In certain situations, both gain a unique
connection to Nature and the Virgo constellation. Seek out Tree Nymphs and Forest Spirits in /Underglade for Star Shards. Fae with roots in Nature like them tend to create changeling situations.

The Changelings are nurturing, grounded, and adaptable, as Virgo's connection to Earth and Nature might suggest. That said, poets have written about their controlling tendencies. Their flora and fauna are grown and reared with an…overly firm guiding hand.
