Welcome to the AQW Wiki. This is a handy guide for new and old wiki users alike. We're glad to help anyone who wants to help but doesn't know how to do what's needed.

Please feel free to post any question in this thread and someone will answer you asap (old questions may be deleted once answered), or alternatively you may pm me ( mturf ) with any issue you don't want to post here.

Tips

Please read the rules before posting anywhere on the wiki.
We record what is currently in game, dont add any items /etc that aren't yet in the game.
Do not make personal pages for your character/guild/clan/etc.
Do not remove thanks.
Don't add rare until an item has left the game, even if you know its going to be gone soon.
Spend a moment to familiarize yourself with the commands within the edit window.
Internal wiki links are set using -

[[[page name you wish to link to]]]

Recent changes can be viewed via a link in the side panel. You may wish to filter your results.
At the base of the page is an "options" button, some useful tools live here.
When you edit a page, leave a note to say what you did to help other users & mods.
If someone edits a page and does not leave a note, use the history tool to try and find out what they did and why before you take any action.
If your entries are frequently being corrected by other users/mods, try to find out what you're doing wrong, it'll help everyone ^-^
If you find a spelling mistake on an item description/quest description/npc dialogue/etc, check it in game before amending. if there's a typo in game then sadly, we should have a typo here on the wiki
Notes and other additional information should be located the line above "Description" where possible
Try and edit with as few edits as possible, in case the pages need to be reverted. Do not use the "save and continue" button. Too many edits and we will lose out "history".

Parenting
To set parent page, use options, parent, and enter the page you wish this page to be a sub category of. you can only parent to pages that currently exist. try to follow the same parent path as other pages in said catagory. here is a guideline

Every page can be tagged by multiple reference words, this can be done by using the tag command at the bottom of a page. It is a way to categorize pages. All tags must be a single word, separate them in any manner and it will be considered as multiple separate tags. If you want to tag a thread into an existing tag category ensure you spell it the same way (eg, sword is a different tag to swords). If you make a new tag category, do it with reason, tags are virtually useless if only one page has the tag. If you don't understand a tag, click it and see what other items have the same tag. Please try not to make new tags if a suitable tag exists (eg - adding "draconian" to dark draconian when it has "dragon") unless you think it is necessary.
Do not just add tags for the hell of it, and if you add an existing tag be sure it fits the criteria for that tag (look at the other pages with it). The more careful we are with our tags, the better they work. And remember, if only one page exists with a tag, it is useless

i think i'v got a hold of the format fairly well, but i lose some things like the rare tag image files every time i need them. i thought somewhere with things like that would be helpful. post if you have anything to add

Screenshots

General
- images saved as .png or high quality .jpg are best
- always set your game graphics to high
- simpler backgrounds (eg. grass area of portal) are better but not essential
- try to crop well: (old aq examples) uncropped, poorly cropped, cropped, ideal
- You can use the magnifying glass in the lower right of shops to preview items
- if any item has various appearances use tabs like this - Bear Clawed Axe
- do NOT edit any of your screenshots for the pedia. only crop. if you did something wrong take the screenshot again
- this is not a competition, only replace a screenshot if necessary (and say why in your edit comments)
Armor/Class
- try to unequip pets, helms, and capes
- use a small weapon, unarmed is ideal but not essential
- try to avoid a skintone that would hide any face changes
Capes & Back Items
- unequip large helmets/armors that may cover a lot of the back item
Helmets & Hoods
- avoid taking a screenshot with an armor that obstructs view of the head item
- try to avoid a skintone that would hide any face changes
- pointless showing full character, crop to head
- avoid taking screenshots in armours like Assassin
Monsters, NPCs, and Pets
- try to get the entire monster/NPC/pet. moving with a pet may help
Weapons
- try to focus on the weapon
- if you wish to show weapon animation do it like this - Fiery Blade Of Torment
Locations
- the small arrow next to the "canned chat" button will hide your chat box

How about when Rare Tags would be warranted? With the new release and all do we add the rare tags now or wait until the event has gone and passed before labeling them as rare?

wait till the event has gone. thats how we used to work and thats how we shud continue. our aim is to record whats in game right now. i know it's tempting to add rare to finish the job, but it would be wrong of us to do that. we just have to backtack when it comes to everything leaving game

updated the table icons for armour and class. please note you may need to clear your cashe to see the changes. as of this time, i'm 100% certain that all classes and armours available from shops have the right logo, please clear ur cashe to make sure ur seeing the right version of the icon before making any changes. ^-^

i have no idea how to do that. it is indeed better than having a character sat there (but ur otto pic is lower quality than the old one). if u can give a simple method of achieving this (that doesn't use bugs or anything daft) then i'll gladly add it.

Simple Mturf,
I DID NOT USE/MAKE/HAVE TO DO ANYTHING W/ A BUG
But I simply hid my character by going at the very edge of the screen,
Removing all equipment I can possibly unequip,
And performed /feign to hide most of my character and erased the parts of my character still being showed using the colour that is compatible to background using Photoshop (or you could also use Paint…),
I also erased the description by covering them w/ boxes of the same color… ^^
Example:
I erased my name on the Character Bar by simply using the "Pick Color" tool, to pick the background colour of the bar, (which is grey) and to cover it up w/ a Box/Square Tool…

P.S
My picture had lower quality then the Old one since I used "Paint"…
Next time I'll use PhotoShop so it will have better quality… ^^

EDIT: If I have the chance, I'll make guyide for this, but for now, I think this is fine enough @_@….

that all sounds perfectly reasonable. i'm not gonna promote editing screenies, but the above's all acceptable. hiding the body is good. i dont think hiding the portrait is necessary, but if u want to do that in the process of hiding the body thats down to u. just dont replace an image only to hide the portrait. basically if there's no obvious blocks of colour or anything to show the edited area then its good. cropping out would be best, but thats obviously not possible in most cases without losing parts of the pic we want. if u are gonna take the time to do it tho, make sure it's a good png, so it's not replaced by a basic screenie :D

What if an NPC is in more than 1 location. Most of the current NPC pages are just linked to NPC. TO me it seems like a more straight forward way is to link it to NPC.
