Death? Souls? The Underworld? I am the master of those things. But an understanding of the traditionally romantic continues to elude me. Girls like flowers, right? Get me some flowers from these Hopeless Romantics so I can give them to Joy. But… don't let her see you beating them up, ok? I don't think she'd like it.
Great. Now can you just… pretend you're a singing telegram that I ordered for her? No? Fine, that's fine.

The Shadowscythe has a pest problem. I have experience with rats, rodent or otherwise, but this type of infestation is rare. Or rather, rarely found before it's too late. I quash Doom the moment I find it lurking in my ranks, but why are these Doom Worms lurking in the foundations of the Shadowscythe fortress? Don't you share this domain? Hm, if you can't control them, then destroy these vermin.
You've previously discovered hidden hallways behind loose bricks in the walls? Well, now you've found what's been hiding in them. These Doom Worms have some form of intelligence. At a glance, I can tell that they're fragments of a larger being. One that has been spying on you and your father. Sickening, isn't it? I despise being watched. Developing proper paranoia is paramount to guarding yourself from prying eyes.

Sepulchure wears the Doom Knight armor, but the power that emanates from him differs from the aura that saturates this sealed room. You can sense it and so can I. Shadows from outside of the Shadowscythe were here. They left claw marks on the wall, scraps on the floor, and the remains of the last living occupant in the corner. Perhaps a closer look will provide the full picture, and a possible way out.
The mortal who wrote this book chose to encrypt it in a simple Caesar Cipher…For our purposes, the most important detail of note was that different Shadows convened in secret. One was called to seal a particular set of weapons away. Once this was accomplished, these Shadows fell into disagreement and fought. You remember a day when the Fortress shook for no reason? I imagine you would have felt ill as well…

I won't decipher the skeleton's book for free. You could waste time deciphering it by yourself, but you need every second you can get to save your father. Give the book to me, and in exchange, I will reforge the weapons sealed in this room. Those blades rest on an altar guarded by corrupted beasts stolen from the Plane of Darkness. We'll destroy the beasts, I'll rip apart the seals, and you will take the weapons.
Arrgh, that was a bothersome seal to remove. The Shadow that created the seal went through great pains to repel light, and anything that once had a pulse. I had to drain the Beasts' veins to hide our origins, tricking the seal into letting me tamper with it. Even then, I felt it biting into my bones. But now, the weapons are yours. Ha, turning your nose up at the rust? Just wait until you see what I can do to them in a forge.

The Shadows wanted to seal these blades away for a reason. I can sense that they once shone with powerful light magic. Flickers still linger, and with my strong affinity for Darkness, I won't be able to hold them without being harmed. But you're able to wield these weapons. Try striking the wall. If they're swathed in Shadow, Light will make them crumble and ward off the swarming Doom Worms.
We've escaped the catacombs. Ha! It's easy to see why the Shadows fear these weapons. Those worms practically dissolved at a touch. You're asking how you're able to wield the blades when I can't? Do you realize that you ask for much and offer nothing in return? And why even risk owing a favor when you already have the means to find the answer on your own. Tch, I may have just given too many lessons for free.

You're eager to ascend and destroy that Light Elemental. I see that and desire the same. But we will not stop at merely defeating our shared enemy. Strive instead to obliterate it, and make it an example of what happens to all that oppose you. To that end, find me a place that will pass for a forge. The elemental took a part of my soul, meaning we will likely cross my stolen Legionnaires.
Yes, this will pass as a forge- just barely. What an extremely irksome necromancy workshop. The books are outdated, the tools are inefficient, and the room is notably grimy. Who could work like this? Tsk, I'm getting distracted. No matter. Hand over those blades. I will use the armor from my Legion to reforge them into a weapon that will overpower the Light.

The arrows have been forged. Considering its materials and the mastery of the forger, they could ironically be the strongest Light weapons on Lore. Think I'm blowing hot air? I'm Undead, that's impossible. We will be making our ascent up the stairs. I sense the sting of Light but…there is something off about the Elementals blocking the way forward. Test the arrows, and examine anything those Elementals drop.
Ha, your aim really does need work. Don't think I didn't notice you using the arrows as a stabbing weapon. But the runes these Elementals carry…they flood the caster with power straight from their chosen Elemental plane. Knowledge of these runes was lost by the time I was born, but it was rumored that the only way to obtain them was by begging for power from elementals that directly serve their Avatar.

The odd Elementals have been destroyed. They were arguably less of a nuisance than the egregiously long climb up the stairwell. It seems we fell extremely far. Ah, back to where we started. Hm, isn't that the doorstop I passed before? You say his name is Shakaz? Very well. We will talk to him and learn what transpired while we were down below - though we will need to fend off the odd Shadowscythe Warriors menacing him first.
The situation is dire. Your father is fighting to keep this supposed greater Light Elemental from advancing his plans, but our forces are being decimated despite their cooperation. It took a part of my soul, and control of most of my Legionnaires. The grip on the Shadowscythe turncoats is tighter than the others - as if this greater Light Elemental has a long standing vendetta against your Empire.

General Rand took command of the Legion while I was indisposed. His position in the Legion is a special case…Few are allowed to question my orders, but from time to time, General Rand's opposing input and assessments have served my ambitions. Once we subdue the Light-enthralled Dreadmarch surrounding General Rand, I will need to speak to him and access our enemy.
You look smug. Just what did you and my General discuss? Tch, his insolence is becoming more frequent by the day. But General Rand's insight concerning the greater Light Elemental is interesting. It used my Legion as a means to an end. The utter defeat of the Empire is its main goal because your father may have taken or destroyed something the Light adored.

We are nearing the final confrontation with this Light Elemental. Its true power is emerging, and I can feel its brightness piercing into the stolen portion of my soul. Since it was brazen enough to use my own Legion against me, it would only be appropriate to destroy it with its own Light. We will tear the Light from the Enlightened Shadowscythe and lesser Elementals to add power to the arrows I forged.
Has your aim improved? Pressure is indeed a fine motivator. The arrows I forged from Legion steel and blades feared by ancient Shadows are now empowered by this greater Elemental's own condemning light. And if the arrow is shot by your hands, then…It's nothing. Prepare yourself, and the Light necromancy spell I taught you. We will end this, and send a wave of fear through the Plane of Light itself.

Beyond this door, the greater Light Elemental has shed its disguise and is in fierce combat with your Father. It crawled out of the old body, one far larger than I had imagined. How it managed to fit itself in that cocoon, ha, must be a trick of the light. Prepare your arrows, Empress Gravelyn. I feel your Light necromancy spell taking effect. This creature, a mere maggot wriggling in your fortress, will be nothing.
Just as how the greater Shadows have overpowered the weak, the brighter Light has destroyed its lessers… Your destiny is your own, to free and to choose. I will not interfere, not when my own freedom is still in question.

In addition to our main agreement, I propose adding further terms. No one involved with this skirmish will mention the Elemental's trick on threat of death or eternal torture. Good, you were quick to accept. It isn't as if both of us find this debacle embarrassing. Far from it…though it would serve us well to investigate what remains of that Light to ensure this never happens again.
An Elemental with its abilities are unheard of. Investigating further, I am even more confident in my theory that it isn't an Elemental. That…thing was something of greater importance to the Plane of Light. I wonder if it could have counterparts from other Elemental Planes…It never did introduce itself. We only referred to it as a supposed greater Light Elemental. Until it resurfaces, we will be left in the dark

The barracks by the Cocytus River is inhabited by those who follow Maleagant despite his lack of rank. The Evocators often strategize with him, and should know where he is. Make them tell you with force if necessary. They're stubborn about conversing with those outside of their circle.
They're refusing to tell you where Maleagant is no matter what you do- even if it means their utter destruction? How curious. Don't look away from me… I know what's going through your mind. You're thinking that "It always has to be something," right?

The Evocators have assumed your presence means I've found out that Maleagant was acting behind my back, and are willing to risk their lives to hide him. What a…happy coincidence. Explore the barracks and search for anything unusual. I sense familiar magic. There may be runes active.

It isn't just the Evocators plotting with Maleagant. The Legion Knights noticed you were investigating their runes, and are mobilizing to capture you. Cut them down, and keep my presence hidden. They may flee altogether if they know I'm here, and take their secrets with them.
I knew the Legionnaires of the Cocytus Barracks were loyal to Maleagant, but I underestimated just how far they were willing to go. Most of my warriors follow me because of my power, and the chance for a taste of it. The respect these Knights have for Maleagant is…different.

Continue your investigation. The Sullied Masters that reside in these barracks are exuding an aura similar to the Light runes. Defeat them, and retrieve their blindfolds- they're engraved with spells meant to heighten the rest of the wearer's senses. I suspect that they may have been tampered with somehow.

That soon to-be-demoted Judge knew nothing? Truly? If he was completely unaware of what was happening around him, that's almost worse than being involved. Minos begged on his knees for me to overlook how he kept you in bureaucratic limbo during your last visit, but he won't get off easy this time.

The room was completely emptied, and the Sullied Master you fought inside was possessed with Light magic? Considering the Light runes, I can surmise that Maleagant asked the Evocators to test Light Necromancy, and the Masters volunteered themselves.

Evidently, Maleagant's collaborators have lost control of the souls they were intent on calling to the barracks. Go to the end of the hall, and banish the Overdriven Paladins before news of their rampage leaks. If there are any of my Legionnaires nearby, make them tell you what happened.
Maleagant's sudden fixation on Paladins, who were survivors of Legion invasions, has led him to studying Light Necromancy. He intends to 'fix' the souls that the Paladin Orders have broken. He has supporters who follow him out of respect, or do so out of dissatisfaction with my leadership…

The Evocators and Knights are organizing an all-or-nothing uprising. They believe that I'll destroy them now that you've discovered their activities. In the past, they wouldn't have been wrong. For now, cut them down at the knees, and keep them from getting between us and Maleagant.
I had Rand block off the Cocytus Barracks, which may have served to panic the Legionnaires instead of containing the confusion - but no matter. So long as we find Maleagant, this can be taken care of quietly. Rand should be done searching the foot soldiers' rooms.

Rand made a discovery in a room at the end of the hall. Find him, and have him show you what he discovered. Apparently, a document from one of the Paladin Orders was tucked away there. It's a profile on Maleagant himself.
Maleagant kidnapped a Paladin, stole the remains of their peers, and is trying to heal their souls? The method is clear, but now I need to know why. Reasoning aside, it's odd that Maleagant wouldn't consult me for this. I have no equals when it comes to sorcery of the soul.

Subdue the Paladin Arondight. Find out why Maleagant smuggled him and the remains of other Paladins into my fortress. I'll read the notes you found. The way you said they were written sounds familiar to me.
…I had intended to go searching, but I should have known. Every living soul I've ever known, even when I was alive, dangled their legs over the edge of oblivion.
