Growing up on Pa's farm, I though I knew animals. We had horses in Haven's Hollow. Cows, chickens… all the normal beasts. We were lucky, where we were. Ma said the Blue Mage shielded us, as he could. It wasn't until I left that I saw them. I never imagined the creatures that roam our forests.

Those Eye monsters… they say Dethrix uses them to spy. I believe it. But what he'd want with those Grifs, I hate to think of it. Those beaks are sharper than knives, and their breath smells like rotten meat.

At night, in camp, the men tell stories of the horrors in Dreadhaven. Jesen's uncle was called to serve the castle, and saw much of them. One night, he took too long serving the roast. Dethrix he was… displeased. Jesen did not continue his tale. He didn't need to. They talk, too, of the horrors the Monster King keeps hidden, waiting for a TRUE threat to his rule.

I will be that threat. And I will DESTROY him for what he's done to Jesen, to Lynaria. To all of us.

Lord of Light, preserve me! There is darkness here. I see its shadows everywhere I look. In the creatures, in the land, in the soldiers. I itch to cleanse it. But I need to save my strength. Alden and Valen might laugh, but power isn't infinite. Like any force, once you expend it, it takes time to renew. I can't heal myself, after all. No. I have to save it for when it really matters. The most important battle still lies ahead. First we take the Keep, THEN we take down Dethrix.

I miss you, Papa. I can still see you standing by the window that last Frostval Eve, before the soldiers came. You were laughing and trying to hold my little ball of light. You were so PROUD.

My light is brighter now.
